We recently partnered with Coast 101.1FM for a fabulous giveaway featuring Lazare – The World’s Most Beautiful Diamond™. And we can’t imagine a more lovely or deserving winner! Krista stopped by to pick up her beautiful necklace this week and as you can see, it suits her perfectly.
To win this contest, Coast 101.1FM asked callers to send in their ‘Most Beautiful Moment’ …. and we love Krista’s story. She tells of her wedding, when her guests all pooled together to raise money for one of her favourite charities.
If you’re as inspired by Krista’s story as we are, we suggest you check out the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, which promotes the development of individual, lifelong, and community-based supports and services for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), their families, and caregivers.
Keep reading to hear Krista’s story in her own words.
Krista’s Most Beautiful Moment
“One of my favourite quotes is “Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away”
I would like to share one of those moments in my life. I got married in 2010 to the most wonderful man for me 🙂
When we were planning our wedding I decided that I hated the part of the wedding where we would have guests do something to have the bride and groom kiss. So to deter this from happening a lot at our wedding I decided to ask our guests to make a donation to a cause that is very near and dear to me. My family has been touched by autism so I figured why not donate to the Autism Society Aspire Program which teaches children with Autism to paint.
I thought that we would maybe raise a couple of hundred dollars and reduce the number of kiss requests and enjoy our supper in peace … so the MC announces what is required in order for us to kiss and it just snowballs from there. At first people would come up with a few dollars here and there, and then tables started to pool their money.
“It was so touching to see the generosity of our guests … In a little over an hour we raised $1261.00 for our cause.”
“The next thing you know, the tables started to compete to bring forward a higher donation than the last table, and they really went above and beyond. Some guests even felt the need to make a little speech to say how important Autism is to them and how happy they were to see what we were doing.
It was so touching to see the generosity of our guests (considering they were likely spending their drinking money!). In a little over an hour we raised $1261.00 for our cause. It was the only thing that made me cry the whole day.
Even the following day at our gift opening, we had people from my community drop in to add to the donation that we were collecting. To this day it is still one of the most touching memories that I recall from our wedding day.”
